We had been praying for some rain but why did it have to arrive when we were playing the Holding Grant Trophy. Fortunately, we were able to dodge the showers and so it didn’t dampen our bowler’s enthusiasm. The competition was sponsored by Matt Dodds, MD Sports Solutions.
We had a good turnout with both greens being used. The rain had slowed them down a little but they were still running true. The format was a round robin with each player playing four matches of ten ends each. The two players with the most wins from each green would play off in the semis and the two winners would then contest the final.
The winners from green 1 were John Burrows and Peter Case and the winners from green 2 were Von Molland and Kathryn Gee. Both games produced some excellent bowling particularly the match between the two ladies. John ran out winner 9-5 on green 1 and Kathryn ran out winner 11-6 on green 2.
The final between John and Kathryn was set to be a cracker. Both players had played well in the run up and to add to the spectacle the odd flash of lightning illuminated the skies. We were treated to some excellent bowling from both players with John eventually winning 12-7. Well done to John, Kathryn and and the losing semi-finalists, Von and Peter.
Ken Dodds presented the Holding Grant Trophy to John.
