Following the Government announcement yesterday regarding the Coronavirus situation it is with great sadness that the Board has decided that it has no option but to close the Club and cancel all social and sports events with immediate effect until further notice. The Board apologises for the short notice in effecting the closure.
The board has come to this decision based on the advice given by the Government that we should
- Limit social contact wherever possible.
- Avoid social contact in pubs, clubs and restaurants.
- Those over 70 and those with underlying medical conditions need to take additional care.
In addition, the British Crown Green Bowling Association has suspended all bowling under its jurisdiction for the foreseeable future. This includes all leagues suspending matches until such time the all clear is given to resume competition.
Our primary concern is the health and welfare of our members. Obviously, the closure will have a major impact on the everyday life of the Club and, particularly, the finances, but thankfully, the Board has been very prudent in building up our cash reserves to support an emergency such as this. We will still have the fixed bills to pay but by closing the Club we will be able to save on energy, water and bar purchases etc.
As the Government has said that we should try and get some exercise we are planning on keeping the greens open so individuals can get some exercise and fresh air. Obviously, social contact should be avoided.
We are a very unique community and we need to look after our members and I encourage you to follow the advice being given and support those we are able to at this very difficult time. The Board will be setting up a contact system to support those who live alone or are vulnerable to make sure that all is well. Please let us know if you wish to be on the contact list.
We will be issuing regular bulletins to keep you informed of any developments at the Club and the wider bowling community as a whole.
We trust you will continue to give the Board your support in these difficult times. Please take care of yourself and stay safe.
On behalf of the Board
