The Hot Pot Lunch this month is on Friday 6th September.
Due the alterations hopefully starting on 16th September the Friday tea will not be taking place in September. It will be necessary for members to keep up to date with progress by viewing the web site or updates on the notice board in the club.
The same is to be said for the 4th Friday lunch in September; this will not be taking place in September due to the disruptions. However I would like to say a huge thank you to all those members and friends who again attended the August lunch; it makes all the hard work worth it. We raised £110 which has been donated to the furniture fund.
The Quiz night this month is on Saturday 14th September with the usual format, followed by a buffet and raffle. Look forward to seeing you; please enter your name on the notice in the club for catering purposes. As this will again probably be the last quiz until the completion of the alterations let’s make it a good one.
The New Furniture Fund has now reached nearly £11,000 but still a way to go as the replacements are proving to be more costly than first envisaged. However, it will be really worth all our efforts in the end and our club will be one to be proud of. Please continue to give where you can as every little helps. Thank you to all those who have given donations so far it is very much appreciated.
I have been approached several times of late regarding repeating the Dinner Dance that was held at Haydock Park Golf Club in March, I am very willing to organise another event there if there are enough people interested, and we would need at least 80 maximum being 100. Obviously at present there is a lot happening with all the building works that is about to begin, but this is something that would need to be looked at maybe in December for booking etc. Everyone has my email address and can also approach me anytime I am at the club.
Also it would be great to organise an event following the updating of the clubs alterations and hopefully the replacement furniture. I have got a few ideas in mind and if viable will reveal at a later date.
SNOOKER – PHIL MILLINGTON
Past Presidents Cup merit competition has reached the semi finals:
Ian Gerrard v Howard Waine, and Frank Royston v Dan Whyman.
Millership Pairs handicap, very poor take up of this with only 4 pairs to date. Phil is proposing playing both competitions to completion before disruption of building works.
The club cues in the racks have been refurbished with new tips, now all should be in good order. Thanks to Dave Tierney for assisting Phil with this task.
A new mini vac has been ordered (used for cleaning the snooker tables) as the old one has ceased to function.
BOWLING – Jeff Lawrenson
We have had a very busy bowling season which is reaching its conclusion soon.

Saturday 7th September sees the final bowling competition of the season , sponsored by Alan Burns.
Final matches for both our own club teams “A” and “B” and Newton League will be played in September.
U3A Tuesday bowling sessions finish on 24th September and St Helens Ladies final event of the season is on 11th September.
Presentation night is currently planned for Friday 8th November
The Death of Member.
Finally it would be remiss of me not to mention the very sad news of the sudden death of one of our very new members ‘Cyril Conroy’ RIP. I’m sure that all our members whether they knew Cyril or not would wish the family to know that everyone at the club are thinking of them and pass on our condolences at this very difficult time for them
