The monthly Friday hotpot lunch with dessert will take place on Friday 3rd May from 12noon.
The Friday Tea will resume this month and is scheduled for 17th May. The price has been increased to £8.50 for two courses and £10 for three courses. The menu choices are on the Web. For booking please contact Linda Collins by email or telephone both of which are on the Web page under Social Events.
The second coffee morning held at the club on Friday 26th April was attended by 18 people and the toasted buttered tea cakes and hot cross buns appeared to go well. All proceeds go to the club. The event will continue to be held on the fourth Friday of the month but following suggestions I have decided to alter the timing to 11-1pm and supply a light lunch of sandwiches at a nominal cost followed by a bowling session. It would be an opportunity for those who normally bowl in the afternoon to join us. I will place a list on the notice board for people who wish to attend for catering purposes.
The Dinner to celebrate Windle Bowling Clubs 125th year on 29th March at Haydock Park Golf Club was a huge success and 56 people attended. The evening wasn’t affect by the power cut and actually added to the fun. The musical group we had were a great success. The event could not have been held at the club unfortunately but we could consider using the group again but it would need to be a concert which I know they would do very well.
Photographs taken by Frank Royston have been put on the Web site.
It has been mentioned that Monday nights at the club are very quiet and I was wondering how successful it would be to consider organising Darts sessions. If there was enough interest we could form darts teams, gents/ladies or mixed. Anyone interested please contact me on my email email@example.com
The quiz night is resuming again on Saturday 25th May this is always a good night please support it. There will be a list on the notice board for attendees.
It has been suggested that we should hold more social events at the club. I would agree the club facilities should be used more. I am happy to listen to any suggestions but it needs to be supported by members otherwise there would be a cost to the club which is self defeating. If anyone has any ideas please speak to me or any Director to ensure it doesn’t clash with other events that may be being organised or considered.
SNOOKER – Phil Millington
The next competition will be The Past Presidents snooker merit singles: this will start in May/June
The Millership Cup handicap pairs will be starting in June/July. Those interesting in entering please check the notice board for the entrants list.
BOWLING – Jeff Lawrenson
Although we have 2 Bank Holidays in May the clubs calendar for the month is really busy with 3 bowling competitions taking place: Presidents Prize 1 Saturday 4th, Presidents Prize 2 Saturday 18th and the Harry Burrows 1 Wednesday 29th.
U3A attend every Tuesday morning, St Helens Ladies Wednesday 8th, West Park OB Friday 24th, Denis Glynn Invite Day Wednesday 22nd, finally both “A” and “B” Pensioners Teams and the Newton League are all playing during the month.
In terms of the Club Bowling competitions Jeff Lawrenson puts a lot of work and effort into organising these comps; helped by his wife Helen please support them both in putting your name down to take part in these bowling events.
I have been approached by one of our members with the suggestion to include a brain teaser at the end of the Newsletter so here goes, the answers will be attached to the June newsletter.
