MARCH 2019
I hope you all found it helpful to receive the newsletter in February and looking forward to the March edition. Spring is round the corner and the events calendar for 2019 is now on the web site.
SOCIAL EVENTS
The Houghton Weavers evening was really successful and everyone appeared to enjoy it.
The monthly Friday hotpot lunch with dessert will take place on 1st March from 12-3pm cost is as usual £6.
Friday Tea is on 15th March from 4.30pm. This social event is always well supported and booking early is a must. Menu choices are always posted on the web site with contact details for Linda Collins for booking a table.
Buffet and Prize Quiz night is on Saturday 23rd March and again this event is very popular and early booking is recommended, a list will be posted on the notice board at the Club.
Mothering Sunday is on Sunday 31st March this year. I have spoken to Linda Collins who informed me that she had not decided about the Mothering Sunday lunch at this point, but If it goes ahead it will be put on the web site and posted on the notice board in the club.
In March this year the Windle Bowling Club is celebrating the 125th year of it’s founding. To mark this special occasion it was decided to hold a dinner. Due to the numbers that may have wished to join this celebration and the lack of dining space at the club it was decided to hold it at an outside venue namely Haydock Golf Club. Although the response was not as many as first anticipated we do have almost 50. We have also booked a group for the evening. There is still availability for anyone that may still want to join us but I would need to know by the first week of March in order to enable the chef to have the menu choices. I’m sure it will be a very successful event; please make contact with me if you do wish to join the party via my email phindependentservices@gmail.com
I have been approached with the idea of holding coffee mornings at the club. I would be quite willing to organise if there is enough interest. Please make contact with me if you would be interested in such an event.
SNOOKER
The Bill McHenry Afternoon Pairs snooker competition is now underway and the 1st round is almost complete. Once rounds are completed the semi finals will take place followed by the final and buffet for competitors and guests, date still to be arranged.
THE BOWLING SEASON.
I understand that the fungal disease on the greens has now been treated. However the green keepers wish to keep the greens closed for a further short period to ensure the condition has been eradicated. I am sure that the greens will be open in plenty of time for practice before the official opening on Saturday 6th April. I can understand the frustration being experienced by those who want to start bowling and your patience is appreciated.
