The feedback from club members regarding the monthly newsletter is very favourable and although information contained in the newsletter is also on the web site they find receiving an email is another reminder of up and coming events.
The club calendar for the months ahead is beginning to look quite busy so it is hoped that the weather is as kind to us as last year.
The monthly Friday hotpot lunch with dessert will take place on Friday 5th April from 12pm cost is as usual £6.
Due to Good Friday falling on the 3rd Friday in April there will not be the normal Friday Tea Meal.
The first coffee morning was held at the club on Monday 25th March and considering the day had to be changed due to unforeseen circumstances it was really successful, feedback from those who attended was very positive and all proceeds will go to the club. The event will now be held on the fourth Friday of the month in future, therefore the next coffee morning will be on Friday 26th April It is hoped that following the event those that wish could play bowls during the summer months.
The Dinner to celebrate Windle Bowling Club 125th year on 29th March at Haydock Park Golf Club is only days away now. We have secured a musical group to entertain us following the meal. I will inform members of the outcome of the evening in the May newsletter. Frank Royston one of our directors has kindly offered to take photographs of the event some of which could with agreement be put onto the web site.
The Bill McHenry Afternoon Pairs snooker competition is now reaching its conclusion and the finals will be held on Thursday 28th March at 1pm followed by a £5 buffet for competitors and guests. The bar will also be open for a couple of hours. All members are welcome to attend.
Following contributions from many members new Premier Aramith snooker balls have been purchased for both tables, plus a reserve set for use in competition matches. I understand that these are a very high quality and will last for years.
Good News both bowling greens are now open. I understand that further moss treatment will be applied in the near future so it is important to be sure you wash your hands following a bowling session.
We look forward to welcoming the U3A again this year, many of whom have enjoyed the clubs facilities and have become members. The first morning session begins on Tuesday 2nd April and continues on Tuesday mornings throughout the year.
The official “Opening of the Greens” is 6th April please see the notice board at the club for those who wish to play, it is always a very enjoyable event and the first bowling event for our new President Bernard Graney’s year. Please support him and Jeff Lawrenson who works very hard to organise the bowling calendar year. It begins at 1.45pm with a buffet at 4.30pm sponsored by Colin Owen.

The club will be holding the BCGBA (British Crown Green Ladies Bowling Association) National Ladies Individual Merit Finals Competition on Saturday 13th July 2019. To be asked to host this event is a great boost to the club and I’m sure follows on from the success of the Ladies Pairs Finals event at the club last year. More information will be available nearer the time.
The “A” and “B” bowling teams will be beginning their year on 8th April.
St Helens Ladies bowling sessions will commence on Wednesday 10th April.
